Calling Pinterest Fans – Making Crafting Cool again!

Crafting isn’t just for Martha Stewart and Summer Camp. The fun and fulfillment of making hand-crafted items is cool again thanks to sites like Pinterest (which you should check out if you haven’t already done so – Nationwide Children’s has tons of cool boards.)

If you’ve been looking for a way to stretch your crafting muscle but don’t have a lot of time – I’ve got the perfect option for you. Consider joining one of our TWIG Groups. TWIG (Together with Important Goals) is groups of women throughout central Ohio who get together to support Nationwide Children’s Hospital through a wide variety of fundraising projects. Most groups meet monthly and there are a number of “crafting TWIGs” who work year-round to make craft items that are sold annually during the TWIG Bazaar which was held last weekend at the Ohio Expo Center (Note: there are “baking TWIGs” that bake for the Bazaar and just general volunteering TWIGs – there is something for everyone).

Michelle Miles (right) joined TWIG 257 after attending last year’s Bazaar.

I got my crafting groove on this weekend when I visited the Bazaar and met Michelle Miles, who just joined TWIG 257, based in Dublin. Michelle came to the event last year with a friend and decided to get involved. Michelle, admittedly is not a major crafter, but she joined this TWIG because she was interested in getting to know their participants. This TWIG, made up mostly of Japanese-speaking members, meets during the school year to craft beautiful items in preparation for the Bazaar. Michelle teaches English as a Second Language and this was the perfect chance to make new friends while polishing her Japanese (and her origami skills).
